Dating back to 1922, the 104th Annual Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial is one of New Mexico’s oldest and most enduring cultural events—and home to what’s widely recognized as the oldest Native American art show and market in the country.
Kicking off every late July in Gallup, this multi-day celebration honors Indigenous cultures from across the Southwest and beyond. What began as a small gathering of traders, artists and dancers has evolved into an internationally recognized event, showcasing generations of Native artistry, tradition and storytelling.
Today, the Ceremonial is a full-scale cultural experience. It starts with an Exhibit Hall Opening Night for a casual, cocktail party-style wine tasting and viewing of the exhibit to browse the juried art show and a marketplace filled with authentic jewelry, rugs, paintings and more. Then comes a lively schedule of events that includes a 5K run, parades, Little Miss Ceremonial Pageant, Open to the World Rodeo competitions and a Contest Pow Wow. Nightly performances, social dances and cultural showcases are also on the schedule.
