Route 66 turns 100 this year and Texas is celebrating the only way they know how, and that’s big. In Amarillo and across the Panhandle, the milestone comes to life with 100 days of centennial events, all leading up to the main attraction: the 10-day Texas Route 66 Festival, happening in June.
Stretching across all 178 miles of Route 66 in Texas, from Shamrock to Adrian, the festival includes a full lineup from day one through day 10: classic car shows and vintage trailer parades, cattle drives and rodeo events, a community race, plus concerts, cruises and pop-up celebrations in towns along the route. Amarillo serves as the hub, culminating in a grand finale in the Route 66 Historic District filled with live music, pageants, shows, food and plenty of nostalgia-fueled fun.
